We are zooming towards the long Easter weekend. I’m sure most families are making plans to spend time with close or extended Family or having a short holiday, or perhaps you are looking forward to the break and relaxing at home.
For us here at Robohand, we are expecting a whirlwind of activity.
Our friends from MakerBot in the USA arrive in sunny South Africa on Wednesday evening. They will be spending the day with Richard on Thursday, interviewing and catching up on what we’ve done with their Replicator 2 3D printer since January this year.
Liam will be returning to us on Good Friday for the fitting of a new Robohand. He is growing so fast that over the last two months he has already outgrown his Robohand. He is going from strength to strength everyday and his parents are super proud. There is no nagging to put the Robohand on, there is only nagging for him to take it off at night when he goes to bed!
On Saturday we are expecting a new face to join the wall of fame for a Robohand, Dylan. Dylan is a 12 year old young man that was also born with ABS. This will be a very long day as we need to start with all the measuring and fitting but hopefully we can finish before bed time. As soon as we are able, we will post Dylan updates to Facebook so keep your mobiles close so you can receive those updates.
On Easter Monday Waldo will be returning for a new fitting of his gauntlet and some maintenance to his Robohand. When he first received his Robohand, Waldo had hardly any movement in his wrist, so the adjustments to his Robohand fingers had to be a little different to allow for the minor movement in his wrist still allowing him to close the hand. He has been practicing and exercising and now has some more movement so we will be making adjustments to his Robohand and redoing his gauntlet.
After documenting and filming and interviewing, MakerBot leave sunny South Africa on Wednesday. I’m sure they will be looking forward to the long flight home so they can recharge.
We are very blessed to be able to help these children over this Easter period. Please remember that we are still looking for funding to assist with materials that are needed to create the gauntlets and Robohand’s. See the Donations and Contacts page for the bank account details.
Enjoy your Easter holidays.
